Ideal-Normative and Socio-Historical Approaches to Gender Equality Verses: A Study of Riffat Hassan's Thought

Gender equality issues never stop being discussed and always attract attention. This is driven by the many inequalities experienced women from ancient times until now. Even though gender increasingly echoed, position of affected biased patriarchal culture. Often are made second. Islam itself provides space for equality. study aims to discuss Riffat Hassan's thoughts on realizing in Islamic view. also uses a qualitative descriptive method with narrative analysis approach. The data was collected documenting various sources related Hassan her analyzed using interactive analysis. results show that there two approaches used interpreting verses Koran: ideal-normative socio-historical approaches. In view, basis contested culture 1) God first created men, not women; believed have been ribs men. Therefore, derivative ontologically secondary; 2) women, primary agents human fall heaven; 3) only men but so existence tool has no fundamental meaning.
